Early detection saves lives
1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.
The good news is, the survival rate with early detection can be 98%.
Women at average risk for breast cancer have the option to start annual mammograms at age 40.
What are 3D mammograms?
3D mammograms take 15 x-ray images of the breast from all angles, to create a 3D view. This allows your radiologist to see detailed images of your breast tissue in a way never before possible with traditional 2D mammograms.
How are 3D mammograms different?
Traditional mammograms create a flat image. In a 3D mammogram, the radiologist looks at the breast tissue in one-millimeter slices, scrolling through the images like pages of a book and providing a more accurate reading. 3D mammograms help show the complexities of breast tissue.
What are the benefits of 3D mammograms?
3D mammograms have been shown to detect 40% more invasive cancers than traditional mammograms. There’s also less chance your doctor will need to call you back for a “second look,” because they can see the breast tissue more clearly.
What should I expect?
3D mammograms are done in conjunction with a standard 2D mammogram, using the same system. It takes just a few seconds longer than a traditional mammogram for each view, and with no additional compression. 3D mammograms use very low x-ray energy--about the same amount of radiation as traditional, and well below regulated limits.
