“Where the happy girl at?” asked a patient as he walked into the family practice department at Open Door’s downtown Muncie health center. It did not come as a surprise that he meant Rachel Pounds, a family practice medical assistant.
This month's 50th anniversary partner feature is The Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie (BGCM). Since opening its doors in 1933, BCGM has provided a safe, structured, and positive environment for generations of local children and youth. Today, they serve more than 600 young people in after-school and summer programs across three locations.

For nearly 150 years, MPL has been much more than a place to find reading materials. In the last two years, this “much more than” has meant serving as a space where Open Door community health workers are get to know neighbors by name, hear their joys and concerns, and help connect them with social supports — from scheduling that doctor’s appointment they’ve been putting off, to talking through resources for stable housing or utility assistance.
