Open Door to Open New Site in Anderson on Sept 1

Open Door Health Services (ODHS) will be opening a new primary health care facility at 1916 Jackson St in Anderson on Tuesday, September 1.  The Federally-Qualified Health Center will be able to provide healthcare to patients of all ages, regardless of their income or insurance status.

The Anderson site will be funded in large part by a New Access Point grant through the Affordable Care Act. This grant award was announced on August 11, 2015 and will provide nearly $1.1 million in funds through June 2016.

St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital has also been strong partner in the start-up of the new site, which will be located on the hospital’s campus.  The hospital system has already begun providing referrals to the Anderson site for patients who present at the emergency department with no primary care provider to follow-up with upon discharge.

Open Door is no stranger to the Anderson community as the organization has been providing women’s health services in Anderson for more than a decade and has been operating the Madison County WIC program since 2013.  “We are very excited to expand the services we currently provide in Anderson,” said CEO Toni Estep.  “Because we are already in the community, we see every day what the need is and we want to be there to help fill that need.”

While the new site will offer only medical services at this time, plans are in place for dental services to be offered in the near future.  “Oral health is so strongly tied to physical health, but is so often overlooked.  We knew that we could not open a new facility in Anderson without incorporating dental services as well,” Estep stated.
